ANN & GARY LARSON: LENS & BRUSH

The show will present 20-30 works of art including both oil paintings and photographs. Ann and Gary, living in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York, have been working to produce extensive bodies of work for many years. They have received many awards in various shows nationwide. Ann works predominantly with oil on canvas in a variety of sizes. Gary has evolved from film to digital capture using both color and black and white infrared. Each has had work published in a number of well-known magazines. Both have exhibited in many solo and group shows across the country.

Ann is an award winning painter. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Ann began traveling and living throughout the United States at the age of 18. After completing a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Central Oklahoma, she and her family moved to Denver, CO where Ann began to focus on her painting and fell in love with the western landscape. She now enjoys living in this beautiful part of the country even though plein air painting is a challenge almost any time of the year. Ann also spends time painting on the coast of Maine and throughout the Southwest. Her approach to the landscape is to simplify as much as possible in order to create the strongest paintings.

Gary was born in Connecticut and, after completing his degree at the University of Connecticut, travelled extensively throughout the United States living in 12 different states. He has been deeply interested in photography for over 30 years and became increasingly committed to photography in the Adirondack Mountains. He still travels throughout the U.S. frequently and into Canada. His subjects are drawn from nature and focus on landscapes, structures and flowers. For many years, he has been especially drawn to infrared photography finding that its unusual reaction to the light spectrum challenges human perceptions. It has opened fresh creative channels.
