Petals and Paintings

Calling All Flower Arrangers:

Flower arrangers, we invite you to join our show "Petals and Paintings" at Ti Arts' Downtown Gallery. This annual event features live floral creations that are displayed near the paintings that inspired them. Before the show, visit our gallery, select a painting, and, for the show, interpret the painting through the creative arrangements of flowers and foliage. Your entry will become a work of art interpreting another work of art.

Participants need not be formally trained in designing floral arrangements. Follow the steps in this downloadable PDF flyer. (The instructions are also elaborated in more detail on this web page. )

How to Participate

    1. Visit the Downtown Gallery on August 26 or later: Check the "Petals and Paintings" sign-up sheet at the front desk to see which paintings have already been chosen. Please do not select a piece someone else has chosen.

    2. Select one or more painting(s) from either room in the gallery. You must make one arrangement for each painting you claim.

    3. For reference purposes, you might want to photograph your choice so you don't have to rely on your memory of the art when you create your flower arrangement.

    4. Before you leave, write your name, contact information, and the title of the art you selected on the "Petals and Paintings" sign-up sheet at the front desk.

Note: The Elissa Gore show opens on August 26; therefore it would best to visit the gallery on or after the opening. Don't select an abstract painting from the show "Driven to Abstraction." by Diane Penfield and Vicki Stewart because that show will be removed by the time "Petals and Paintings" opens.

Create and deliver your flower arrangement on September 8:

    1. Select your live plants and flowers (pick them from your garden or buy them). You may also use dried plants, stones, and other objects in your design but the emphasis should be on live material.

    2. Create a flower arrangement that interprets the artwork you selected (line, color, composition, texture, etc.).

    3. Put your arrangement into a water-tight container. (This step can be done at home or when you deliver your creation to the gallery.) The Downtown Gallery will have a podium for your arrangements or you can bring your own

    4. Make sure plants stay well hydrated so that they will look fresh through 3 pm on September 11.

    5. Deliver your arrangement to the gallery on Wednesday, September 8th, 2021 between 10 am and 4 pm. For added interest and viewer education, please include a description of the flowers and other live or dried plants that you used.

    6. Invite your friends to visit the show. They will be impressed!

Pick up your arrangement on Saturday, September 11, 2021, between 3 and 4 pm.
